AIS SmartScanner

AIS SmartScanner, the world’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) digital registration system from MGI (Booth 2149), offers Touchless Sheet Registration by scanning and analyzing every individual sheet fed through the system and then adjusting and modifying inkjet head performance in realtime to compensate and correct for any printed or physical imperfections on the sheet. Every piezo drop and micron of varnish is automatically calculated and applied based on the unique printed and physical aspects of each sheet and original print file comparison. By treating each sheet like a separate job, improving digital postpress performance quality on the entire wide range of printed output – including offset, digital & flexo presses. The AIS system uses Artificial Intelligence to create an automatic varnish and hot foil registration. It is fully compatible with Variable Data Finishing (VDF) jobs. Using print image and inkjet synchronization algorithms, the exclusive and patented AIS system runs at more than 5,000 billion operations per second. Without operator intervention or a decrease in feeding speed, it makes corrections and adjustments for any defects generated by the original offset, flexo or digital printing run and any subsequent lamination process. By registering each sheet as it’s own individually unique job, the AIS SmartScanner completely eliminates the need for the traditional extra steps involved in postpress registration processes – such as producing and using printer’s marks or crop marks to establish sheet position references. Such symbolic references, which have always been vulnerable to production errors in the original printing process (ex. if the sheet is off, then the marks will be off) are now rendered unnecessary.
