MiniPUR Melter System

The Nordson Corporation MiniPUR melter system provides a complete, cost-efficient polyurethane (PUR) application solution in a “single box.” The tank-based system adeptly handles up to 4-liters of PUR material from various formats including slugs and pellets/pastels. Low-volume users can now easily, effectively premelt PUR adhesive to feed small bookbinder wheel pots.

Long appreciated by commercial binders for improved layflat, durability and flexibility qualities, PUR adhesives are also important for digitally-printed books as fuser oils, inks and toners common in digital printing hinder binding with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) adhesives commonly used in bookbinding. MiniPUR melters deliver affordable PUR adhesive capability to these low-use processes. The closed system protects PUR from the moisture in air that can prematurely cure PUR yet keeps a supply of molten PUR readily available to refill wheel pots, minimizing the amount of air-exposed adhesive.

The MiniPUR system incorporates a lid configuration and integral inert gas supply connection not typically seen in tank melters to protect the PUR adhesive from the moisture in air that can cause premature curing. This protection preserves the integrity of the adhesives’ bonding properties and extends the adhesive tank life, the length of time the PUR can remain in the melter without needing to be purged.

Shipped in a single box, users just connect the hose to the melter, plug in the power supply and connect the inert gas supply. Easy-to-use controls simplify start-up and operation. Handgun trigger connections control motor on/off to reduce wear on the melter mechanical components, so along with the Teflon-coated tank and removable side panels reduce and simplify maintenance.

MiniPUR melters can use an optionally-available low-cost, low-usage nitrogen gas generator to create a nitrogen blanket to protect adhesive from premature curing and to maximize tank life. Or, MiniPUR melters can use bottled nitrogen gas Nordson’s nitrogen generation system is an ideal solution for efficiently, economically maintaining the nitrogen blanket.
